Daisy’s Puppies

Daisy delivered her two little girls via C-section on Jan 15th. It was a very long night for me. Her labour started at 5:30pm on the 14th. I never left her side for more than a few minutes until her C-section on the afternoon of the 15th!  Daisy was never in distress, her labour just didn’t progress. In fact she was able to sleep through most of it, in her heated whelping box. I tried to sleep beside her on the cold hardwood floor of the kennel. Not a lot of room for me as her box takes up most of the 3’X5’space.

As sore and tired as I was I wouldn’t miss these times for the world! Daisy was a C-section pup that I hand raised as she was too weak to nurse. I milked her mother Dixie II, and fed her with a 1cc syringe. I would take her to work with me so I could feed her on my breaks. Tiny puppies need to eat every 2 hours! We have a very tight bond. I was the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes. I hope I’m with her, when closes them for the last time.

Both girls are very fat and healthy! An abundance of milk for 2 little girls! Daisy is looking great, she is running around like nothing happened, her weight is perfect, and her coat is shiny. She is an awesome mother. She wouldn’t even leave them to go for a walk. When the pups were 10 days old, I insisted she join the walk. She needed to get a change of scenery. After that she was fine with it. Back to her usual self, going for walks with the dogs every day.

Daisy’s Dr.’s Appointment

On Friday I took Daisy to Our Vet for a check-up. Her puppies are due to be born around Jan 15th. I have been worried about her, I had not planned on her having anymore puppies. The Vet said everything looks good. We decided to do X-Rays to see how many pups she is carrying. The X-Rays showed only two puppies.  I am very happy with this! Mother Nature is wonderful! This means Daisy should have a very easy labour and delivery! Daisy is a very good mother. If all goes well she should have two fat, spoiled puppies!

Happy Surprise!

Our Daisy is expecting puppies! I estimate their birthday to be about Jan 15th! This is a huge surprise as Daisy has never been interested, to say the least, in mating.  Keeping a daughter from her was always my goal. This required a lot of human intervention! So when I was blessed with my Dixie III, I was over the moon! She is fourth generation from my very first Cocker Spaniel, Dixie.

I wasn’t going to try and breed Daisy again. I thought she would just retire. Daisy had other ideas! When Daisy met Georgie and she was totally taken with him. I guess she had a change of heart! With no “help” from anyone, they mated. Even now that her heat is over she is still teasing him, they run all around the farm together, chasing each other.

As Daisy is a mature mother my Vet and I will be keeping a very close watch on her. Hopefully everything goes well and we have healthy babies. I always worry, but Daisy is doing great and she is a very good mother.

Georgie’s First Boat Ride

The Wedgwood Cocker family is excited to announce that our beautiful cocker spaniel stud, Georgie, is now living full time on the farm.  We drove down to the States to pick up this little guy last weekend and Georgie said good bye to his former life as a show dog.

Georgie is fitting right in on the farm.  He was excited to see his girlfriends Dixie and Ebony again.  He has a lovely personality; we are very lucky to have such an outstanding stud for our litters.

To celebrate his first Canadian Thanksgiving, we took Georgie out boating yesterday.  Here is a picture of Georgie (his fur has been trimmed for life on the farm) enjoying a day out on the water:

Georgie’s First Boat Ride

We’d like to wish all the extended members of the Wedgwood Cocker family a Happy Thanksgiving.  We are thankful we found fantastic homes where Georgie’s puppies will receive lots of love and will grow into wonderful dogs.

We’ve got puppies!

We are excited to announce that Dixie and Ebony have both given birth to litters fathered by Georgie.  Both mommies are doing well and didn’t need any help from Ellen (but she stayed up all night with each of them just in case).

Ebony, the new mother of 6 puppies

We are so pleased with the 9 new additions to the Wedgwood Cocker family.  Dixie gave birth to 3 puppies on August 28th while Ebony gave birth to a whopping 6 puppies on September 3rd.  See our puppies page for more information on genders and colours of the puppies that are currently available.

The little ones aren’t leaving their mother’s sides so we will be holding off a few more weeks to post pictures of them.  We’d like to thank the families on our waiting list for being patient…trust us that Wedgwood Cockers are always worth the wait!

Introducing Georgie

Daisy and Audrey have blessed us with many beautiful litters of puppies over the years with Mac as a their stud.  However, we feel it is time for the next generation.  Two of Mac’s daughters, Ebony (a stunningly gorgeous black cocker spaniel) and Dixie (a beautiful blonde cocker spaniel) have both been recently bred.  Since they are Mac’s daughters, we carefully selected a stud from a wonderful breeder down in the United States.

We must be honest that the search for the right stud took us a considerable amount of time, we began searching about 1.5 years ago when we made the decision to keep these two dams rather than sell them as puppies.  Their good looks (and loving personalities) were just too hard to part with and represented everything we wanted to breed into our next generation of Wedgwood Cockers.  When we came across Georgie we knew we’d found a match.  This friendly brown cocker spaniel had the looks and the personality to fit in with our pack.  He truly is a ‘perfect’ cocker spaniel from a breeding perspective.  We can’t wait for him to move up North and live with us permanently.

Georgie, Our New Stud

Ebony and Dixie went to live with our friends down south a few weeks and were both successfully bred with Georgie (ironically on July 4th).  We can’t wait to select homes for their puppies when they come in the near future.  To be added to the wait list, please contact us.

This is an exciting time for Wedgwood Cockers and we thank you for being part of it.

Audrey Had 4 Beautiful Boys!

We are excited to announce that Audrey gave birth to 4 beautiful male puppies on February 26th.  These little guys are fathered by Mac and have his stunning good looks.  The newest Wedgwood Cockers are approaching 4 weeks old and are starting to audition human parents. If you think your family is ready for a new addition, give us a call to setup a time to visit the farm. Just remember…these are special puppies who deserve extra special homes!

Welcome Oliver!

We are so excited to have Oliver (aka Olie) visiting us at the farm this week while he family is away traveling for Spring Break.  This gorgeous cocker spaniel was born on the farm and loves to come back to visit his ‘dog parents’ every chance he gets.  He is a playful pup who loves to fetch a ball or get a belly rub!  Thanks for coming to visit us this week!

Remembering Kizzy

We are sad to announce we said goodbye to our beloved Kizzy today.  Kizzy sustained an injury on the farm yesterday and we made the difficult decision at the vet’s office this morning to end her suffering.  Kizzy has been with our family for many years and will be missed terribly.  We would like to thank everyone who contacted us to express their condolences.  The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and is very appreciated.
